Scuba Diving in Florida: Looking For A Great Diving?

For clear, blue water and beautiful, sandy beaches, Florida is one of the best places to go. However, not all of the fun is on the surface of the water. What you do not see is under the sea. Beautiful fish, incredible sea turtles, reefs, and treasure. Being such a historical and nearly untouched part of the ocean, the Florida coast lines provide some of the best scuba diving in Florida. From as far north as Jacksonville Beach, to the Florida Keys, and even on the Gulf Coast of Florida, there is no place that you will go that you cannot find incredible scuba diving.

While scuba diving in Florida is an amazingly beautiful past time, there are ways to make it exciting. Cave diving is a fun and exciting way to enjoy the beauty of scuba diving. Devil's Den and Blue Grotto are two of the best places in Florida for cave diving. Devil's Den is a giant sink hole near a town called Williston. This deep crevice holds a warm body of water that, in the winter, causes steam to rise out of it, giving it its name.

Perfect for all kinds of divers, this sixty foot deep hole in the earth is a beautiful place to go for a swim. The water is ranged at approximately fifty feet and the maze like system of tunnels and caverns have been gated off because of the dangers of getting lost. Not far from Devil's Den is a clear-water cavern that is the largest in the state. It is called the Blue Grotto and any diver is welcomed to drop in and have a swim. Its maximum depth is approximately one hundred feet and has an incredible compressed air-supplied bell where you can remove your mask and regulator and relax for a while mid dive.

This swift current of water will allow you to witness the beauty and nature of the under water habitats of the most amazing array of fish and sea life in the ocean. It is here that you will be able to swim along side giant sea turtles and even watch safely as a shark swims past. This drift will, however, take you into the middle of the migration path of whales, as well as many other sea dwelling creatures.

You can also go scuba diving in Florida about a mile off the coast of Venice Beach to look for sharks teeth. Some of these amazing, sharp chompers have been there for centuries and many of them are larger then any sharks teeth you have ever seen. Reef diving is also a lot of fun. The beautiful settings of coral reefs and incredible indigenous sea creatures that call them home, makes the dive worth while. However, there are two types of reefs in Florida, the natural reefs and the artificial reefs. Both are beautiful and interesting.

Off the coast of the Miami/Fort Lauderdale area is an artificial reef that serves as home to many different species of sea life. These artificial reefs are formed using wreckage of many different kinds. In an attempt to renew and preserve the reefs of the area, an artificial reef program was launched. Dropping the wreckage of retired tankers, oil rigs, air planes, and many other different things, the local marine scientists were able to simulate a reef for the marine life to make into homes. This beautiful and intriguing artificial reef stretches for miles.

There is also a natural living reef in the National Marine Sanctuary at Looe Key. This beautiful five and a half square-mile ecosystem is reminiscent of those found in the Bahamas and houses all kinds of coral and marine life. Scuba diving in Florida can provide so many different opportunities for seeing beautiful natural surroundings while under the water. Do it today, you will not regret it.
